Foetus dumped in Otjiwarongo

OTJIWARONGO: A foetus estimated to be six months old was found at a dump site at Otjiwarongo’s Ombili informal settlement on Monday morning.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Monday it is suspected that the foetus was aborted on Sunday night.

“We are suspecting that the mother aborted the foetus on Sunday night and dumped it at the garbage site in Ombili the same night,” said Mbeha.

The Otjozondjupa police spokesperson said a passer-by saw some fresh blood and a swarm of flies around what appeared to be a dirty nappy on Monday morning.

The passer-by then established that it was a male foetus and alerted the police.

No arrests have been made in connection with the matter so far.

Mbeha called on community members in and around Otjiwarongo who know of a woman who was pregnant recently, but who no longer appears to be pregnant to inform the nearest police station.

An inquest into the matter has been opened at the Otjiwarongo Police Station.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
