Former JMACc Student Dix Exhibits at La Bonne Table

Justus Shaanika, alias Dix, is a former JMAC student and graduate from the College of the Arts.

He will be exhibiting new, funky and exciting works of art in his first solo exhibition entitled ‘Ezulonkalo’ at the FNCC’s Restaurant La bonne table as from 11 August.

The exhibition opens at 18h30 and will run until 6 September.

The title of the exhibition, the Oshiwambo term ‘Ezulonkalo’ means ‘shaping the present in order to create the best future’

“The seeds sown by Joseph ‘Papa’ Shikongeni have now produced fruits,” says Shaanika about his teacher’s influence on his own works of art. The art graduate approaches the lino cut or cardboard print making technique in a new way, thereby drawing inspiration from his surroundings, his love of music and his culture.

Other techniques that he experiments with are spray paint and acrylic paint on canvas, ink and pen illustrations and oil paintings.

Shaanika has previously exhibited together with two other artists in the ‘Ghetto Soldiers Reloaded’ exhibition at the National Art Gallery in 2013.
