Four-Nations Tourney Underway At Coast

The town of Swakopmund is already a hive of activity ahead of the Easter weekend as action in the much-anticipated biennial Four-Nations tournament got underway late yesterday at the coastal town.

Hosts Namibia will be facing formidable opponents led by South Africa, Westphalia and Ghana during the course of the highly competitive U-17 development tourney at the Swakopmund Sports Complex. “We have a new crop of players this year and most of them haven’t played at this level of international football, but this is their chance to gain valuable experience and they should strive to take aantage of whatever opportunity in order to impress and do the country proud,” says Namibia head coach Turipamue Upi. “We expect some tough games, especially against Ghana and Westphalia in terms of the physical aspect of the game, as well the South Africans who have selected their team from the youth teams of Wits, Chiefs, Ajax and other recognized youth academies. We have drilled the boys in some of the playing style of the Brave Warriors and the idea is to make sure they get accustomed to it at an early stage. Our aim is to win every game as it comes,” added a hopeful Upi.

In tomorrow’s action South Africa will take on Ghana, while Namibia will face Westphalia at 18h00. On Saturday teams will go into a short recess and action will only resume on Sunday at 13h00 when the 3rd and 4th placed teams play for a 3rd place finish, before the final match kicks off at 18h00. Entrance to all matches is free.
