Free secondary education should start in Erongo Region because it is richest region in country, says youth leader

SWAKOPMUND: Free secondary education should start in the Erongo Region because it is the richest region in the country with mining and fishing resources, a youth leader has said.

The Namibia National Students’ Organisation’s (Nanso) Secretary for Secondary and Basic Education, Herman Walter Rutz told Nampa today the organisation knows Government cannot start free secondary education in the whole country at once, but they have to start somewhere, so they suggest it starts in Erongo.

The national examination fees for Grades 10 and 12 should also be abolished soonest, he noted.

A decision taken by Cabinet on 11 March 2014 directed the Ministry of Education to make all necessary arrangements so that no Namibian parent or guardian is required to pay school fees at secondary education level as from the 2016 academic year.
