Ghanaian under-17 national teams are new champions of Four Nations football tournament

SWAKOPMUND: The Ghanaian under-17 national team are the new champions of the Four Nations football tournament after defeating a German Westphalia team in the final on penalties in Swakopmund yesterday.

Hosts Namibia ended fourth after losing to South Africa (1-2) in the third-place play-off.

The resilient Ghanaians thereby ended Westphalia’s dominance at the Four Nations international friendly tournament for the last two occasions in 2010 and 2012.

Westphalia striker Tobias Tellio opened the scoreboard in the first-half, but Ghana’s Tanor Collins equalised in the second half, forcing the match to a penalty shootout after full time.

Ghana won the penalty shootout by four goals to two (4-2).
