Girl (13) Raped, Murdered

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was raped and murdered, and her body left in a half-constructed house at Henties Bay’s Omdel location last weekend.

The half-naked body of Rachel Boois was found in the corner of a small room. It is alleged that she had been punched, and slapped, strangled before she was sexually assaulted.

The house in which her body was found has been incomplete for over a year now, residents in the area told The Namibian.

“The naughty children come and smoke and drink here. It’s a dirty place, full of crap and rubbish,” one woman said.

Geoffrey Banton, a Henties Bay resident, was alerted by the youth who found the body. He immediately called the police.

Rachel lived with her grandmother, Ouma Magriet, since she was just a baby. She was a Grade Seven pupil at Kamwandi Junior Secondary School. People in the neighbourhood knew her as a friendly girl who always helped her grandmother.

The house where her body was found is just a block away from her home.

Rachel’s uncle, Alfeus Eichab, who lives with Ouma Magriet, said he last saw her on Thursday afternoon. It was only on Saturday that he learnt from the grandmother that Rachel had not come home.

“She always came home and we always knew where she was. She was just moving around between the houses, visiting friends and playing.

“She was not a naughty girl still a child, so when I heard she had not come home we became very worried,” he said.

On Sunday people came to the house and said they had found her body. The police were already there when the family arrived at the scene. Eichab and Ouma Magriet identified her body at the Henties Bay police station.

Eichab said she was Ouma Magriet’s “right hand” and helped with everything.

“Rachel was the only one she had,” he said.

Ouma Magriet said she is grief-stricken and angry at the same time. “What can we do and what can people say? Nothing will bring her back. I’ve left it in God’s hands,” she said, showing a picture of Rachel, which was taken when she was just six years old.

“On Friday, she went to buy electricity and brought the voucher to me. She always helped. She then went to her room, and that was the last time I saw her. I thought she was in her room but when I called and looked for her, she was not there anymore. She sometimes did that. She would sneak out of the room. She would do that because she was scared I would not allow her to go out and tell her she must stay at home. I went outside and saw her footprints leading out of the gate,” said a grieving Ouma Magriet.

Police investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made yet.
