Gladiators Beat Westphalia to Win Series

The Brave Gladiators won their three-match series against Westphalia U18, after winning their final match 2-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday.

Memory Ngonda opened the scoring after 11 minutes when she headed in from a Zenatha Coleman freekick while Thomalna Adams made it 2-0 on 62 minutes to seal their victory.

In the final stages Westphalia did all the attacking but Namibia’s defence stood firm with captain Uerikondjera Kasaona and Stacy Naris and midfielder Lena Noreses in fine form.

Namibia went on the attack from the start and opened the scoring on 11 minutes when the 15-year-old Ngonda headed in a freekick by Coleman.

Coleman put in some good attacks from the midfield and Ngonda once again came close when she shot narrowly wide from a Coleman pass midway through the first half.

Namibia dominated possession and Vewe Kotjipati also came close, having an attempt well saved by Westphalia’s keeper, Vivienne Brandt, while Adams shot over the bar towards the end of the first half.

Brandt pulled off another stunning save from Anna Shikusho early in the second half but could do nothing when Adams intercepted a poor back pass and rounded Brant to put the ball in an empty net.

Westphalia started pressurising Namibia in the final quarter but could not break through.

In the final minutes Westphalia winger Fredericke Kempe hit the crossbar with a cross from the right wing but thats the closest they got as Namibia held on for the victory, which saw them winning the series 2-1.
