Gladiators lose to Ghana in friendly

WINDHOEK: The Brave Gladiators lost to Ghana by three goals to one in a friendly match on Independence Day yesterday.

The match was played at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital, and was part of the Namibian national women’s football team’s preparation of the 2014 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Women’s Championship slated for Windhoek from 11 to 25 October.

The Gladiators took the lead in the first six minutes of the game when Lovisa Mulunga sent the ball to the back of the net.

The Namibians had plenty more opportunities to score, but failed.

Minutes before the end of the first half, the Ghanaians equalised through Agnes Aduako.

Seventeen minutes into the second half, the Ghanaian team took the lead through Juliet Acheampong, and soon after scored their third goal courtesy of substitute Samira Suleman.

The Brave Gladiators recently won by a 6-0 aggregate against Angolan club, Progresso, in two friendly matches early this month in the capital.
