Governor calls on local authorities and individuals to provide basic services to residents

SWAKOPMUND: Erongo Regional Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua is calling on all local authorities and individuals here to provide basic services to residents, as the population has increased.

Mutjavikua was speaking during the launch of the Erongo regional profile and presentation of the 2011 Population and Housing Census’ statistics in Swakopmund today.

The statistics for Erongo indicate that the population has increased from 55 470 in 1991 to 107 663 in 2001, and to 150 809 in 2011.

He thus encouraged officials in decision-making positions such as chief executive officers (CEOs), town planners as well as Directors of Education to prioritise the provision of shelter, health and education in the region.

The governor stated that statistics are very important for proper planning, adding that that is the only way people can live in harmony.

He said the increase in population is a challenge to authorities and government to make sure that people have sanitation, clean water, houses and education as these are key performance areas.
