Great Action At PTA Tennis Series

THE second tournament of the PTA Tennis Series got underway on the tennis fields of Windhoek High School (WHS) in the capital last weekend. A total of 35 players were in attendance, keeping the spectators on the edges of their seats.

As ever so often, Codie van Schalkwyk was again unstoppable in the Aanced category.

The defending champion cruised through the tournament in dominating fashion and it is hard to imagine that the youngster will drop any points in the near future.

After his third place in the opening tournament some three weeks ago, Oliver Diggle secured the second place this weekend, while Nguvi Hinda came in third.

Codie’s Brother Connor, one of the favourites of this division, had to settle for a disappointing fourth place.

In the Intermediate division Henry de Klerk secured his first win of the season ahead of Logino Goraseb and Deonetto Dirkse.

Meanwhile Randel Kavandje won the Beginner’s category for the second time in a row. Delicia Dirkse had to settle for second place while Petro De Sandro came in third.

In the Midi category there was another two-way battle between Adam Diggle and Beyonce Boois. The two players finished the first event equal on points, sharing the first place. This time around though, Boois got the better of Diggle to seal the win with Diggle in second. Daniel Sindila once again finished third.

Georgia Orren got her first win in the Mini category ahead Maluci Namwandi and Thandiwe Tanga.

At this tournament all participants once again collected points for the PTA Tennis Ranking. Throughout the series, players accumulate ranking points on a 12 month rolling basis with great prizes for the overall winners at the end of the year.

Wimpy Maerua continued its support of the tennis series and has contributed significantly to the development of tennis in Namibia.
