Handbag Theft Suspect Professes Innocence

An alleged handbag thief claimed in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court that he wanted to return the handbag in question to the security guard who would not believe him. Mesag Paulus (22) an unemployed man told Magistrate Justine Asino that he saw the handbag in a trolley where the complainant forgot it and took it to the security guard who just assumed he stole it. It is alleged Paulus stole the handbag at a mall in Windhoek and wanted to run away with it when he was apprehended by a security guard.

The handbag contained various bank and retail credit cards, an ID card, a voter registration card and N$200 in cash. He was informed of his right to legal representation and he chose to defend himself. Asino postponed the matter since one witness was still to testify. She remanded the matter to May 06 and granted Paulus bail of N$1 000.
