Hishongwa Shacks Still Standing

A sheeben and shacks which reportedly belong to the Namibian High Commissioner to Botswana, Hadino Hishongwa, that were supposed to have been demolished about two weeks ago are still standing.

City Police this week said they are still working on getting a court order to demolish the structures built on a piece of unserviced land in the Goreangab area in Windhoek.

Abraham Kanime, the police chief, confirmed that they have not yet acquired the court order.

“We are still in the process of getting court orders for all the illegal squatters in Otjomuise, Havana and Goreangab area. It will take some time,” Kanime said.

Two weeks ago when The Namibian reported that the police intended to demolish the shacks, Hishongwa denied ownership of the structures in question.

“Those things don’t belong to me. Ask the municipality. They belong to them, not to me,” Hishongwa told The Namibian then.

But Kanime said they had enough evidence to prove that Hishongwa owned the structures.
