Hundreds of Grootfontein residents gather at Omulunga Sports Stadium for belated Independence celebrations

GROOTFONTEIN: Hundreds of Grootfontein residents gathered at the Omulunga Sports Stadium yesterday for belated Independence celebrations.

The Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development Charles Namoloh delivered the keynote speech at the event.

Namoloh explained that Foreign Affairs Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was scheduled to officiate at the belated 24th Independence celebrations at Grootfontein, but due to other commitments she could not be there.

Namoloh said the independence of Namibia was achieved on 21 March 1990 through hardship, adding that many Namibians sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the South African colonial forces.

He urged Grootfontein residents to unite and work together in developing their town.

Namoloh further stated that Government will continue to build the needed infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, and houses, and will also produce enough food for everyone countrywide.

The Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development encouraged all Namibians to avoid regionalism and tribalism which he said destroys the peace and stability Namibian heroes fought for.
