Imawida Ends Year On Dazzling Note

In front of a full house consisting of players, parents, supporters and coaches, the SKW Football Academy held a dazzling year end function in Windhoek, last week.

Newly elected chairman, Dr Anibal Rego, gave a short but powerful introduction to the new philosophy of the newly aligned Academy.

The SKW Football Academy has been in operation since 2007 and Rego said it was time to now realign and develop it into a more focused football skills development academy that would benefit the club’s current and new players irrespective of age.

“We want to leave a mark in our communities and do our part in growing football in Namibia. We now can carry the SKW banner and will complete the 2020 football vision that had been envisioned for the club and academy.”

Rego further suggested that the club organise, as from next year, a parents’ committee for each age group to help support all teams at the academy.

The academy has also encouraged a coaches’ committee to compile a coaching manual and guide for all coaches, thereby ensuring that all players of various groups have training schedules and methods each week.

“Let’s develop together your skills. So, players remember you must come to practice and give your 100% commitment and together we will grow, bring your sisters to come and play football at the academy as Namibia recently held the CAF women’s championship, so why not develop our girls as well.

“Let’s take football to all our people, through the academy to our disaantaged societies that need assistance, through community-based football skills training sessions and who knows, maybe we discover new talent and bring them to the academy, develop them and help them to play at the highest level.”

The newly elected committee was introduced to the guests and in turn they awarded the deserving players in all age groups with lucrative prizes.
