Important to have a good start to COSAFA: Mannetti

MORULENG: Namibia’s national senior football team coach Ricardo Mannetti is looking forward to a good start to the Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) Cup.

The COSAFA tournament starts on Sunday in the North-West Province of South Africa.

Namibia play its opening match against Seychelles at the mining village of Moruleng at 14h00 Namibian time.

Speaking to Nampa ahead of their game on Sunday, Mannetti said the team is ready for the match and he is looking forward to going through to the next round of the tournament, adding that a good start is what he wants.

“Our training camp in Ghana was preparation for this game and at the moment, we have a good team spirit on and off the field of play so I don’t see why we should not have a good game,” he said.

The coach added that his main worry at the moment is the team’s failure to score goals at crucial moments.

“There is no formula to scoring goals but we have been working so hard on goal-scoring with the players over the past months and I hope today they will get the ball in the net because we want to reach the next round of the tournament,” Mannetti said.

Namibia’s starting 11 players are:

Goalkeeper: Virgil Vries

Defenders: Ananias Gebhardt; Willem Mwedihanga; Chris Katjiukua; Ronald Katjijere and Dennis Tjetjinda.

Midfielders: Deon Hotto; Hendrick Somaeb; Wangu Gomes and Petrus Shitembi

Forward: Nicky Musambani
