It’s Neck-and-Neck Between Tigers and BA

The title race between Black Africa and Tigers remained neck-and-neck as both teams recorded victories over the weekend.

On Friday night, Tigers beat Ramblers 3-1 to move three points clear, but the next day BA came from behind to beat Eleven Arrows 2-1 and rejoin Tigers at the top of the log on 34 points.

Orlando Pirates moved into third place with a 1-0 victory over Rundu Chiefs on Saturday evening, while Tura Magic remained fifth after beating United Stars 2-0.

Fourth-placed African Stars was due to play Blue Waters yesterday while sixth-placed Civics was due to face Blue Boys.

Black Africa remained on Tigers’ tail with a hard fought 2-1 victory against Eleven Arrows on Saturday.

Arrows took a first half lead through a penalty, but BA struck back through second half goals by Ananias Gebhardt on 50m and Eugene Riaan on 75m to clinch the victory.

BA and Tigers are now both on 34 points, but Tigers are marginally ahead on goal difference.

On Saturday evening, Pirates moved into third place on 28 points with a 1-0 victory against Rundu Chiefs.

Striker Terdius Uiseb scored the winning goal on 13m with a fine volley, and with midfielders Gustav Isaak and Gerson Hamman in fine form, they had several more chances.

Pirates are now five points behind Tigers with a game in hand and coach Akan said it would be very difficult to catch the leaders.

“There are now seven games to go and we still have a game in hand and there are still 21 points available. If we fight and collect 21 points then it is possible, so mathematically we still have a chance, but if you see the winning mentality of Black Africa and Tigers, it is very difficult to catch them. Something will have to happen, like they will have to drop points, so at the moment it’s very difficult to catch them,” he said.

Tura Magic beat United Stars 2-0 through goals by Kalusha Alhassan and Peter Shalulile to remain fifth on the log.
