Jacobs Eyes Rio 2016

Woody Jacobs believes he is the right man to guide Namibia through the qualifications for the 2015 All-Africa Games and the 2016 Rio Olympics Games as he takes over the reins of the national U23 side which forms part of travelling party for the annual Ghana Tour.

Jacobs, a former national U17 coach and current African Stars mentor, says he is honoured to be entrusted with the national under-23 side and expressed confidence that the current crop of players have what it takes to deliver positive results.

“I see we have so much potential in the team and I would like to play more games against regional select teams just to assess more national talent. I gly believe we have the players to stand up and be counted. I have been stressing to the players at the training camp that it is now time to make history and they can do that with a g run in the qualifiers for both Rio 2016 and the All-Africa Games as well”, Jacobs states.

Jacobs, assisted by Mohammed Ouseb will today fly to Accra, Ghana for a training camp that ends around 18 August and includes a mixed age group of 19 players. In the group are also U20 players who are being prepared for the upcoming Zone Six Games, in Zimbabwe in December later this year.

The team will be housed at Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra, where they will be involved a few high-profile friendly matches against Botswana’s U20 side, who are also touring Ghana.
