Jonas Secures Third Medal for Namibia

Boxer Junias Jonas secured a third medal for Namibia at the commonwealth Games on Tuesday evening when he progressed to the semifinals.

Competing in the 64kg light welterweight category, Jonas beat Leroy Hindley of New Zealand in their quarterfinal bout.

With the victory, Jonas now goes through to the semifinals where he will face Samuel Maxwell of England on Friday afternoon.

The winner of that fight will qualify for the final, but the loser, as well as the other semifinal loser, will both receive bronze medals.

In cycling action on Tuesday, Heiko Redecker came 18th in the men’s Mountain Bike Cross Country race, while Vera Adrian came 16th in the women’s MB cross country race.

In bowls, Will Esterhuizen lost 21-11 to Henry Musonda of Zambia in the Men’s Singles competition.

The Namibian Men’s Fours team lost 17-12 against India and 14-10 against South Africa.

On Monday, Namibia’s Fours team lost 11-10 to Canada.
