Julinho Sporting Ready for the Big League

Rundu-based football club Julinho Sporting are ready for the start of the 201415 MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL).

Julinho Sporting’s first place in the 201314 North-East First Division (NEFD) football league last season earned them promotion to the country’s top-flight football league this coming season.

They join another Rundu-based team, United Stars, in the NPL, set to start on 11 October.

Julinho Sporting’s chairperson John Paulo dos Santos told Nampa on Monday that his team is ready to compete in the Premier League, even if the league starts tomorrow.

“We made a couple of signings from Zimbabwe and Zambia to bring depth into the current team which won promotion.

If we look at our team right now, we are ready to compete with big teams on an equal footing,” he enthused.

Dos Santos noted that he gained a lot of experience while managing United Stars, and will this time around with Julinho Sporting do what is necessary for the team to challenge ‘bigger’ teams.

“Our coach Nelson Luis is very experienced, and we have kept 40 per cent of our senior players in the team.

“It will not be child’s play when the league starts as everyone knows it’s difficult to compete against teams like Black Africa and African Stars, who have bigger budgets than us.

“But after a couple of seasons in the Premier League with United Stars, I have learned what to focus on more if you want to win and compete with all the teams fairly,” explained Dos Santos.

The other newly-promoted teams are Mighty Gunners from Otjiwarongo, Windhoek-based Rebels and Benfica from Tsumeb.

The University of Namibia will also be a new team in the league after it bought Ramblers FC’s Premier League status. – Nampa
