Junius Jonas in CWG Boxing Finals

Namibia is in line for either a gold or silver medal in boxing at the Commonwealth Games underway in Glasgow, Scotland.

Boxer Junius Jonas will fight in the final of the light welterweight category against Josh Taylor of Scotland at 16h45 local time on Saturday.

The Namibian beat Sean Duffy from Northern Ireland in the semi-finals on Friday.

Also in action on Saturday is Paralympic powerlifter Ruben Soroseb in the men’s heavyweight category.

Namibia secured two bronze medals already at the Games through paralympians Johanna Benson and Lahja Ishitile in women’s T34 long jump and women’s T12 100 meters, respectively.

Meanwhile, Namibian wrestler Angula Shikongo lost to Leon Rattigan from England in the men’s 97kg Round of 16 bout on Wednesday.

Cyclists Vera Adrian and Irene Steyn ended 27th and 28th overall in the women’s individual time trial on Wednesday.

They will still compete in the women’s road race on Sunday. Namibia’s Till Drobish ended 18th and Gerhard Mans 24th in the men’s individual time trial on Thursday.

They will still take part in the men’s road race on Sunday together with other Namibian riders Costa Seibeb, Loto Petrus, Dan Craven, and Heiko Redecker.
