Junius Jonas wins silver at the Commonwealth Games

WINDHOEK: Namibian boxer Junius Jonas won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday.

Jonas lost on points in the final of the light welterweight category against Josh Taylor from Scotland.

Namibian paralympian powerlifter Ruben Soroseb ended sixth in the men’s heavyweight category, lifting 167.4kg.

Namibia has secured three medals at the Commonwealth Games thus far – two bronze medals were won by paralympians Johanna Benson and Lahja Ishitile in women’s T34 long jump and women’s T12 100 meters, respectively.

Meanwhile, Namibian cyclists Vera Adrian and Irene Steyn did not finish the women’s road race earlier today.

Their male counterparts were due to commence their road race at 12h00 local time.

They are Till Drobish, Gerhard Mans, Costa Seibeb, Loto Petrus, Dan Craven and Heiko Redecker.
