Karateka Excel At Africa Goju Ryu Champs

Namibia excelled at the Africa Goju Ryu Karate Federation Championships (AGKF) which recently took place in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia team won a total of 95 medals, consisting of 31 gold, 29 silver and 35 bronze medals.

Zaviur de Wee was awarded the Africa Grand Champion Trophy for his division by winning gold medals for Kata and Iri Kumite and a bronze medal for Team Kata.

Namibia entered three teams for Team Kata of which one team won a silver medal and another team a bronze medal.

The Namibian black belts were in devastating form and obtained the following results:

In U21 Black Belt women’s category, Shirleen de Wee won a silver (Kata) and a bronze medal (Iri Kumite).

In the Male Black Belt Kata category, Juumlrgen van Wyk won a silver medal while Sam Ekandjo and Rowan Carstens each won a bronze medal.

In the Male Black Belt Iri Kumite Over 75 kg category, Juumlrgen van Wyk won a gold medal, Sam Ekandjo won silver and Rowan Carstens won a bronze medal.

In the Male Black Belt Iri Kumite Under 75 kg category, Shaun Fobian won a gold medal.
