Kavango Crush Otjozondjupa

Kavango booked their place in the semi-finals of The Namibian Newspaper Cup with a confidence boosting 3-1 victory over defending champions Otjozondjupa last round-robin group match on Sunday morning.

Otjozondjupa, who rested some of their top players including, their top striker Glen Kamutjete, who only came on in the second half of the entertaining encounter.

A glancing header from towering midfielder Kazungo Felix Maliti gave the boys from the north-eastern region a well-deserved 1 – 0 half-time team.

The goal resulted from a corner-kick which saw the midfielder out-jumping all the other players inside the penalty area to add his name on the scoreboard.

The crowd was still celebrating Maliti’s goal when midfielder Nalipo Risto netted goal number two for Kavango after he was put through by star midfielder Frans Hahili Matjayi shortly before halftime.

Ojozondjupa pulled one back through the boot of Abner Hauwanga who blasted past Gerhard Kawiwa in the Kavango goal.

Otjozundjupa missed two chances to add another goal to their tally before Risto went on an amazing run which saw him slipping through a cluster of Otjozondjupa defenders before he beat goalkeeper Roberto Katjinamuene to give the boys from the Okavango a resounding 3 – 1 win.
