Kavango Land Use Plan in Final Draft

The formulation of an integrated regional land use plan for the two Kavango regions is in its final stages of development and the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement held public consultations this week for the last public input before finalisation of the plan. “The integrated regional land use plan book will soon be out and will be launched in the Kavango West and Kavango East, while Zambezi Region is next in line,” said Ester Lusepani, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement. In Rundu the meeting to canvass public input took place on Monday.

The Kavango integrated regional land use plan was first introduced in January 2013 and since then a number of workshops, meetings, focus group discussions and field trips were undertaken to ensure extensieve consultation as well as involvement of all stakeholders.

Lusepani informed the meeting that cognizance would be taken of the latest delimination outcomes in the Kavango regions.

The Kavango East and West Regional Governor, Dr Samuel Mbambo, reminded participants that the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement’s mandate to produce land use plans is derived from Vision 2030, the national development plans, national land policy as well as the constitution.

“This is in line with the [land] ministry’s national obligations as the custodian and main player to ensure effective planning and administration of land in our beloved country,” said Mbambo.
