Keetmans Murder Suspect Remains in Custody

SHEBEEN owner Matias ‘Chi-Chi’ Shikongo (40), who is accused of hacking to death a customer, was remanded in custody following his second brief appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrates’ Court on murder and assault charges.

Shikongo was not asked to plead, and his case was postponed until 24 July for further police investigation to take place and to allow him to get a lawyer.

The State opposed bail, and Shikongo was aised to formally apply.

It is alleged that Shikongo a week ago chased and attacked Deon Katuuo (26) with two dogs and a panga.

Katuuo, who sustained multiple cut wounds on his head and dog bites on both legs, died the same day he was attacked by Shikongo at the local state hospital.

It is alleged that Shikongo attacked Katuuo when he tried to convince him not to attack another customer for urinating against his premises’ wall.
