KFC Football Beat a Great Success

Last Saturday saw the finals of the KFC Football Beat event at the UN Plaza in Katatura, at which fast food restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), hosted close to a hundred kids for a day of funfair and five-a-side soccer.

The 96 kids that made up the teams were selected from hundreds of entries from both boys and girls at the three participating KFC outlets, two in Katatura and the Tal outlet in the Windhoek city centre.

The call for entries was officially announced three weeks ago at the Tal branch in Windhoek and kick-started the formation of teams through youngsters visiting participating KFC outlets, purchasing any item on the menu, filling in entry forms and testing out their kicking skills on an X-Box Kinetic gaming console within the outlet.

“We are delighted by the response we have received for the KFC Football Beat challenge. As a restaurant group, we are happy to be creating events where kids can enjoy our meals and at the same time be active, have fun and make new friends. These events will also bring our brand and the community together,” says Thabo Ntseoane, KFC Brand Manager – BLNS countries.

On Saturday, the youngsters played many matches during the day while kitted in professional Umbro football kits.

Meanwhile, KFC sourced 16 team coaches and four referees who were at the event to motivate the youngsters as well and officiate during the games.

Members of the community from in and around Windhoek also came to the KFC Football Beat event to support the young boys and girls as they battled it out for top honours in the exciting five-a-side soccer event.

There were plenty of fantastic spot prizes to be won on the day for both players and spectators such as branded shirts while all the teams also received medals.

In addition there was plenty of fun to be had by all and music and entertainment was provided by DJs from Base FM.
