Khomas Beat Erongo but Fail to Aance

Khomas recorded their second victory at the Namibian Newspaper Cup when they beat Erongo 1-0 in the final match on Saturday night but it was not enough to aance to the semifinals of the competition.

Khomas finished second in Group B, behind the winners Oshana who won all three their matches.

Against Erongo, Khomas winger Nghidipohamba Hamukoshi scored the winner just before halftime with a cracking shot that gave Erongo’s keeper Jason Hawala no chance.

Khomas were good value for their win and pressurised Erongo from the start, with some hard running from their forwards.

Romario Ndjavera had a long range freekick punched away, while Fernandes Musambani, Dino da Silva and Hamukoshi provided regular crosses into the box but the finishing was poor.

Hamukoshi broke the deadlock on 29 minutes when he turned on the pace to break away from Erongo’s defence and volley a long cleanse high into the net.

Erongo tried hard to find the equaliser, with Williams Geiseb and Luciano Fischer working hard in midfield, but they seldom troubled Khomas’ defence.

In stead it was Khomas who had the better chances, with Da Silva and Inrico Swartz both wasting good opportunities after dribbling past several defenders.

In the closing stages, Williams Geiseb dribbled into Khomas’ box and passed to Fischer, but Khomas keeper Viril Namaseb saved well at his feet, as Khomas held on for the victory.

Khomas midfielder, Riuoua Kamutuezu won the man of the match award.
