Kuugongelwa, Haitope Win in Swakopmund

Uveni Kuugongelwa and Lavinia Haitope were the overall winners of the Old Mutual Victory Races in Swakopmund on 28 June.

It was the second leg of the popular series after the first leg took place in Oshakati on 14 June.

The race saw a huge turnout of 994 athletes, which included numerous physically challenged athletes.

Old Mutual has sponsored the vent for the past 14 years, investing more than N$4,2 million during that period. The overall male and female series winners have also been sponsored to participate at the Old Mutual Two Oceans marathon, while the junior male and female winners have each received bursary funds of N$12 000.

This year’s sponsorship amounted to N$750 000, while other sponsors include Coca-Cola, Mutual and Federal, Marathon Sugar and Business Connexion.

Kuugongelwa won the men’s 21,1km race in a time of 1:05:34, followed by Wendelinus Amesho (1:06:13) and Simon Shipingana (1:06:15).

Haitope won the women’s half marathon in 1:14:05, followed by Alina Armas (1:14:51) and Anna Amutoko (1:14:58).

Kornelius Nghiluuei won the junior men’s category in 1:09:26, followed by Tangeni Sakaria (1:10:42) and Lazarus Nghipandula (1:10:42).

Rondegudus Gustaf won the junior women’s category in 1:41:12, followed by Shivomwene Shilongo (1:41:13) and Ndamonoganda Kamhule (1:42:11).

Sieglinde Gontes won the veteran women’s 40+ category in 1:42:37, followed by Mini Linde (1:47:27) and Estelle Bailey (1:47:36).

Jeroboam Amunyoko won the veteran men’s +40 category in 1:14:15, followed by Mathias Mutota (1:14:59) and Thomas Angula (1:17:27).

The next leg of the Old Mutual Victory Races Series takes place in Keetmanshoop on 12 July 2014.
