Last Gala of the Year

The last Bank Windhoek Swimming Gala for 2014 will be held this weekend at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek. The gala starts off on election day, 28 November at 15h00, with 102 swimmers with a total of 673 splashes.

Top swimmers, Zanregrave Oberholzer, Toni Roth, Sonja Adelaar and Daniela Lindemeier will not be available for the gala since they will be participating in the World Short Course Championships in Doha, Qatar, early in December. This however leaves room for Namibia’s upcoming junior swimmers to take to challenge for podium places.

Up-and-coming young swimmers such as Ricardo Richter, Jade Coury, Carissa Esslinger, Heleni Stergiadis, Corne le Roux, Ronan Wantenaar, Ju-Ane Oberholzer and Rene Viljoen will be some of the top young swimmers to watch at the gala.

Namibian swimmers are hoping to qualify for the Bank Windhoek Namibian Championships to be held in February 2015 and the various Level galas to be held in South Africa in March 2015. Therefore, some excellent times and good competition amongst the swimmers is expected this weekend.

Kiara Schatz, Nicolai Flemming and Zune Weber will be using this as a warm-up gala before they leave for the African Union Sport Region 5 Gala in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, from 9 December 2014.

The gala will start on Friday, 28 November at 15h00 and will continue on Saturday, 29 November at 08h30. The public is invited to come and support the swimmers as they compete in this event.
