Level One Team Shines in Malmesbury

Namibia’s Level 1 swimming team recently participated in Malmesbury, Western Cape and excelled by beating 34 other teams from the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Border. The team consisted of 25 swimmers from Windhoek and Oranjemund.

The Namibian team won the most points overall, but placed seventh on the medal stand after winning nine gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze medals.

The 11-year-old Hannah Murphy pocketed three gold medals for the 100m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle. She also won a silver medal for the 50m Backstroke and bronze medals for the 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke.

Bernard van der Walt also did exceptionally well when he won four silver medals for the 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke. He also bagged three bronze medals for the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle and the 50m Freestyle.

Other gold medal winners were Caynen-Lee Theron for his effort in the 100m Butterfly, Sonique Spangenberg in 100m Butterfly, Hendrik Oosthuizen in the 200m Individual Medley and Monique Davidson for the 100m Butterfly.

Silver medals went to Jordan Blaauw for 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley Jureck Johannson for 50m Backstroke Zeina Kotze for 50m Backstroke Alexandra Maartens for 100m Butterfly Petri Bruwer for 50m Butterfly Monique Davidson for 50m Butterfly Hendrik Oosthuizen for 50m Butterfly Sonique Spangenberg for 50m Butterfly Caynen-Lee Theron for 100 Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke Enrik von Alvensleben for 100m Breaststroke Johannes Wasserfall for 50m Freestyle and Michael Witbooi for 100m Breaststroke.

Bronze medals went to Jordan Blaauw (2), Petri Bruwer, Jureck Johannson (2), Zeina Kotze, Sonique Spangenberg (3), Caynen-Lee Theron, Johannes Wasserfall (2) and Michael Witbooi.

The Boys 12ampUnder relay team consisting of Bernard van der Walt, Johannes Wasserfall, Petri Bruwer and Christopher Mercker won gold for the 4x50m Medley Relay.

The Boys 12ampUnder relay team consisting of Johannes van der Walt, Enrik von Alvensleben, Christopher Mercker and Bernard van der Walt won a gold medal for the 4x50m Freestyle Relay.

The Boys 13-16 Medley relay team consisting of Jureck Johannson, Dehan van der Merwe, Michael Witbooi and Ronald Jeoffreys won a bronze medal for their effort in both the 4x50m Medley and 4x50m Freestyle relays.

Zeina Kotze, Hannah Murphy, Monique Davidson and Sonique Spangenberg won a silver medal for the Girls 13-16 Medley relay.

A stunning personal best time was swum by Anissa Nyamhandu, when she improved her 200m Breaststroke time by a whopping 94,32 seconds. Anissa came sixth in the final for the Girls 11-12 200m Breaststroke.

This was a very successful tour and the Level 1 team expressed its appreciation to their main sponsor Sharon Blaauw Attorneys and Joachim von Alvensleben (Beduin Tent). The Namibia Swimming Union congratulated all the swimmers on their success and good swims.
