Local Songstress Signed By SA Label

MONIQUE English, the singing sensation who hails from Swakopmund, is on her way to South Africa on invitation by Laurenzo Davids, CEO of Vision Music Records. Davids is the brother of Idols SA 2009 winner Sasha-Lee.

He, along with his family, shot to fame in 2011 as part of the reality show ‘Huis van DavidsHouse of Davids’.

English, who recently joined a group consisting of different artists at the coast known as Coastal Vocal Blog, performed on various platforms and schools. They started off with the Women and Child Abuse Campaign and also did the opening act for the SA Gospel Group Dumisani earlier this month.

“Laurenzo Davids invited the group to SA where they will be cutting their first album free of charge,” said Monique’s mother, Zelda English.

Zelda says that Davids also suggested that the young songstress should keep her solo career and not disappear in the group. As part of this endeavour, Monique will follow up with a solo album early in January next year.

The man behind multi-platinum selling and eight-time SA Music Award-winning Afro Soul vocalist Lira will produce the album on which Davids will perform a duet with Monique as a bonus track.

Monique started out with her musical career as a youngster with her sister Megan and has entered various competitions like Battle of the Artists in 2011 and shared the stage with famous SA artist of ‘Train of Love’ fame, Donald Maatshe at Hart van Windhoek last year. She also ended among the Top 25 in Trustco’s ‘Star Performer’ last year.

Her recent single ‘Dreamchaser’ was released in May this year and can be heard on SoundCloud.
