Magistrate Shoots Suspected Robber Dead

THE police in Oshana region are investigating a case in which a suspected robber was shot dead by a magistrate.

Oshana police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo said four suspected robbers forced their entry into a home at Valombola section of Ongwediva and tied up the couple they found in the house on Wednesday night at around 20h00.

The couple owns an Iveco bus servicing and car repair business.

“The robbers beat and tied up the couple. They stole an unknown amount of money, a mobile phone and a laptop,” said Aiyambo.

A neighbour, who is a magistrate, heard screams from the businessman’s house and ran outside to investigate.

“When he came out of his house, he allegedly saw the robbers running out of the house carrying items and trying to jump over the fence. He (magistrate) then fired a shot that hit one of the suspected robbers,” Aiyambo said.

The man is expected to appear in court today.

The deceased is a 40-year-old man from Akweenyaga village near Ongwediva. His name was withheld as his next of kin are not yet informed. The other three alleged robbers escaped and they are still at large.
