Man appears in Rundu Magistrate’s Court facing murder charge after he allegedly killed his 13-year-old cousin

WINDHOEK: A 19-year-old man appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing a charge of murder after he allegedly shot and killed his 13-year-old cousin at Tosa village on Saturday.

The suspect, Likuwa Frans Mangundu, was denied bail when he appeared before Magistrate Esme Molefe, and his case was postponed to 25 March 2015 to allow for further police investigation.

He was remanded in custody.

According to a Police report, the suspect was reportedly sleeping with his three cousins at an open space near their traditional homestead when he apparently saw a hare (wild rabbit).

He allegedly tried to shoot the animal but it fled into the darkness, and in the process of placing the shotgun back, a shot went off accidentally, fatally hitting the deceased and injuring the other two boys.

The two injured victims are currently recovering in the Rundu State Hospital.
