Man kills girlfriend, then self

WALVIS BAY: A 32-year-old man committed suicide after stabbing his 28-year-old girlfriend to death in Walvis Bay over the weekend.

Alma Natangwe Shikomba was stabbed once in the chest with a sharp object on Saturday, and died on the scene at a house in the Kuisebmund residential area between 19h00 and 20h00.

Her boyfriend of two months, Joseph Amutenya, allegedly informed his friend that he had killed his girlfriend and will commit suicide.

His lifeless body was found the following day, hanging from a tree in the Kuisebmund cemetery.

Detective Inspector of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay, John Mwatongwe told Nampa that no suicide was found.

“There was apparently no argument, so we do not really know what transpired,” he added.

In another suicide, Petrus Nangolo, 21, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with an electric cable in a shack at Henties Bay.

Mwatongwe said no suicide note was found on the scene either.

Also in Walvis Bay, 33-year-old Paul Muzorongondo was found dead at the Ekutulyatika Open Market between 20h00 and 22h00 on Saturday.

“The allegation is that Muzorongondo, who used to live in the streets, was pushed by a 40-year-old woman and hit his head against a hard object, which caused a wound on his head.

We suspect that he died due to that wound, but the post-mortem will tell the actual cause of his death,” said the detective.

The female suspect was brought in for questioning, but has not yet been charged.

Police investigations continue.

In Swakopmund, a culpable homicide case was registered against a 48-year-old man who was driving a Volkswagen Jetta sedan and hit a motorbike, causing the death of 63-year-old Paul Kruger van de Venter, who was on the motorbike.

The case docket will be referred to the local prosecutor for a decision on whether he will be charged with culpable homicide.

The next of kin of all the deceased have already been informed.
