Maranatha Singers Proclaim Easter Message

The Windhoek-based Maranatha Singers will lead audiences into the spirit of Easter with their performance of the Marcellinus Swartbooi Easter Collection.

This is a commissioned work completed in January 2007 and premiered by the Maranatha Singers in the same year. The work is based on scriptures from the Bible depicting the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

Marcellinus Swartbooi needs no introduction in choral music, both locally and internationally, as his authentic compositions of especially Khoekhoegowab songs are most adored by choirs. He established himself as composer of note with his travelling quartet, Exhibit A, having performed in eleven major cities around the world in the past two years. His traditional Khoekhoegowab songs are currently performed by choirs in countries like America, Germany and Canada where his music is in great demand at workshops presenting culturally-inspired Namibian songs.

The Easter concert programme will be supplemented in the first half with Psalms also composed by Marcellinus Swartbooi, as well as by Ponti Dikuua, a member of the Maranatha Singers, and Engelhardt #Unaeb, also a Namibian composer.

The Easter concerts by the Maranatha Singers take place on Thursday, 10 April at the Christuskirche at 19h00, on Saturday, 12 April at St Boniface Roman Catholic Church in Pioneers Park at 19h00 and on Sunday, 13 April at Stephanus Kirche in Klein Windhoek at 17h00.

Entry to these performances will be N$50 for adults and N$20 for students (upon proof of student registration) and children. Adult tickets are available in aance from choir members and at the door. Students and children pay at the door. CDs and Ds of the choir’s past projects will be available.
