Mbumba Calls for Unity

SWAPO secretary general Nangolo Mbumba has called for unity in the party ahead of the Ohangwena Constituency by-election next month.

Addressing a rally in Ohangwena on Saturday to mark the launching of the party’s campaign, Mbumba said leaders and party members should be united and that no opposition candidate should win the seat left vacant when Maria Kombwana died on 5 May this year.

The Swapo candidate is Johannes Kornelius Hakanyome. Mbumba urged people to go to the polls, so that they can learn how to use the electronic voting machines which are being tested in the by-election.

“This is very important and everyone has to go and learn how to vote using that machine. I hear this is not difficult, but please go and learn how to vote with it,” Mbumba said.

He reminded Swapo leaders, members and supporters that the party will hold an electoral college soon, and that Swapo members and supporters have to start looking for capable, excellent, principled and suitable candidates to serve the party.

“We want cadres who believe in Swapo and will promote Swapo principles. Don’t elect candidates because they are your friends. No, elect or propose a candidate who is really Swapo and is capable to represent you in parliament,” Mbumba said.

He told members to run a fair campaign without any intimidation. “Let us have a fair, peaceful and responsible election campaign,” Mbumba urged.

The rally was attended by the Minister of Works and Transport, Errki Nghimtina, who is one of the Swapo national leaders assigned to the region.
