Medicine manufacturer Cospharm to set up shop in Namibia

ONGWEDIVA: The Managing Director of the Cospharm Group, Cosmas Mukaratirwa said his company will set up a generic drugs manufacturing plant in Namibia in the next three to five years.

Mukaratirwa said this in an interview with Nampa at the official launch of the company’s generic drugs at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region on Saturday.

He indicated that the Cospharm has the technical know-how and its products are already accepted in the market.

The Refpain, Landemain 1.5, Montera 10, Azimax 500, Amontin 625 and 1000, Cefurocos 250 and 500, Vonavir, Atazor-R, Efcure-600 and Atazor – 150, 200 and 300 are the generic products/drugs the Cospharm Group has launch.

“We are excited that we received a positive response of so many doctors from all over the country who came to attend the launch of our products here. They see a great future in our coming,” Mukaratirwa stated.

He pointed out that the Cospharm drugs are affordable and safe. According to Mukaratirwa, the benefit of the establishment of the Cospharm medicine manufacturing plant will be employment opportunities and availability of medicines to address the shortage of drugs reported in the country last year.

Refpain, Mukaratirwa said, is the only generic drug in Namibia which kills pain after taking one tablet.

“The major product of interest from the antiretroviral is Vonavir- which is only a one tablet a day and the course is finished for the day,” Mukaratirwa explained.

A one Vonavir tablet per day will help antiretroviral patients not to forget taking their medicine. The Cospharm Group’s operations are also found in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.
