Mental patient murders two babies

WINDHOEK; Two baby boys were beaten to death with sticks by a 25-year-old man at the Eengonyo village in the Eenhana Constituency of the Ohangwena Region on Saturday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Slogan Matheus said during a media briefing here on Sunday, the suspect has a history of mental illness.

The incident took place at about 16h00.

The deceased were identified as 18-month-old Timoteus Nghiimbihafo Lungameni and Maadi-ovanu Fillipus, 19 months.

They were the suspect’s nephews, and lived in the same homestead.

The accused was home alone with the two babies and two minor children, aged three and five.

He allegedly instructed the two older children to leave the house before killing the younger ones.

He handed himself over to the Police at Eenhana, and informed the police officers on duty that he was told by a ghost in his head to kill two people, and he did.

The police rushed to the suspect’s homestead, and found the two babies dead.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the nearest hospital for medication.

He is currently in police custody, and is due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
