Minister inaugurates renovated Khomasdal Constituency office in capital

WINDHOEK: Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa yesterday inaugurated the renovated Khomasdal Constituency office in the Otjomuise residential area of the capital.

She said Government adopted the Decentralization Policy in 1997 with two main objectives to ensure public participation and improve service delivery.

She said decentralization ensures participatory democracy by means of extending democracy to the grassroots people and it ensures rapid economic, cultural and social development.

It therefore provides an opportunity to people to have access to relevant participative decision making, and extending democracy to people as a right based on national ideals and values, said the minister.

As implementer of the policy, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development is constructing constituency offices countrywide where community members can access Government services.

The Khomasdal Constituency office situated along Ankara Street was refurbished at a cost of N.dollars 8 million over a period of nine months. It comprises of a library, two study rooms and a computer lab which can be used by students from the informal settlements of 7de Laan, 8este Laan and 9de laan.
