Ministry of Education welcomes 19 volunteer teachers from Nigeria

WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Education yesterday welcomed 19 Nigerian volunteer teachers to teach Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology and Agriculture for a period of two years.

A media statement issued by the ministry yesterday said the teachers will be sent to various schools in the regions of Kunene, Omusati, Oshana, the two Kavango regions, Hardap and Otjozondjupa.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Formal Education in the Ministry of Education, Charles Kabajani was quoted as saying that the arrival of the volunteers will be a good injection to the Namibian education system in addressing the shortage of adequately trained teachers in the four pertinent and key subjects.

The deployment of the Nigerian volunteer teachers is in accordance with an agreement entered into between the governments of Namibia and Nigeria on 25 October 2007.

This is the fifth group of volunteer teachers to come to Namibia under this programme.
