Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration eliminates perennial backlog of applications for Namibian citizenship documents

WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration has eliminated the perennial backlog of applications for Namibian citizenship documents, most notably the Namibian Identity Documents (IDs).

The processing of ID documents now takes 12 days from the date of application at the Regional Office to the printing of the actual ID – a much faster process compared to the 210 days it used to take the ministry.

This was revealed here on Friday by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pendukeni Iivula Ithana, when she addressed members of her staff for the first time in 2015.

The minister said a record 150 855 IDs including duplicate documents have been printed in 2014.

Iivula-Ithana called for team work amongst her staff members in order to achieve the ministry’s goals and to provide quality service to the people of Namibia.
