Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration says it anticipates generating N.dollars 59 265 000-00 during financial year 2014-15

WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration says it anticipates generating an amount of N.dollars 59 265 000-00 in revenue during the financial year 2014/2015.

Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pendukeni Iivula- Ithana said this while introducing the ministry’s N.dollars 543 333 000-00 budget allocation for the 2014/15 financial year in the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday.

She said an amount of N.dollars 480 073 000-00 is budgeted for operational activities, while N.dollars 63 260 000-00 is earmarked for developmental projects, bringing the total to N.dollars 543 333 000-00.

Out of the operational expenditure, an amount of N.dollars 19 million is allocated for mobile registration, while N.dollars 126 300 000-00 is for the Turnaround Strategy and consequential costs for the implementation of the strategy.

Iivula-Ithana explained that the ministry is embarking on a turnaround strategy, which will be officially launched next month.

“The turnaround strategy will mean the birth of an improved service delivery for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration”, she promised.

The ministry is furthermore decentralizing to the regions, hence the construction of regional offices.

The construction of the //Karas regional office in Keetmanshoop, the Oshana Regional office in Oshakati and the Omuvelo Wakashamane Border Post in the Omusati Region are expected to be completed during the first quarter of the 2014/2015 financial year.

“We are hopeful that construction for phase two of staff accommodation at Omuvelo Wakashamane, the Kunene Regional office in Opuwo and the Zambezi Regional office in Katima Mulilo will commence during the second quarter of 2014/2015”, the minister indicated.

Meanwhile, the ministry has also acquired a site for the construction of their head office so as to ensure that they have convenient office space for both staff members and the public.
