Minor nearly raped at school hostel

WINDHOEK: A 13-year-old pupil at the People’s Primary School’s Girls Hostel in Katutura nearly fell victim to rape, after an unknown man entered her hostel room and touched her private parts while she was sleeping.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus informed a media briefing here on Sunday the incident occurred on Saturday at around 03h00.

According to Matheus, the victim, a Grade seven learner at the school, felt something touching her private parts twice while she was asleep.

When she woke up, she found the suspect fondling her for the third time and discovered that it was a male person.

The suspect allegedly told the victim that he had mistaken her with someone else and asked her not to scream.

He further instructed the minor to undress, which the victim refused. But an ensuing wrester with the victim caused the suspect to punch her in the mouth when she screamed for help, before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is still at large and police investigations continue.

NamPol in the Omakeke Region reported an incident of rape in the Tshaka Settlement outside Gobabis on Friday morning.

A 13-year-old girl was raped by her elder brother’s friend between 00h00 and the early morning hours.

Matheus said the victim was at home sleeping while under the influence of alcohol. Her brother and his friends returned from a drinking spree at nearby shebeens and also went to sleep in the same room.

When the victim’s brother had fallen asleep, his friend crawled into the victim’s bed and had sexual intercourse without her consent.

“When the victim became sober and gained her consciousness in the morning, the suspect was still found on top of the victim,” he said.

The suspect, 20, was arrested and is due to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate Court on Monday.
