Momentum Sponsors Schools Rugby League

Momentum Namibia will continue the legacy of developing school’s rugby through sponsorship towards the secondary school’s rugby league.

This was announced on 21 May in Windhoek at the launch of the 23rd edition of the league.

Speaking at the launch Head of Myriad amp Funds@Work For Momentum Frederick van Zyl, stated that Momentum’s brand philosophy extends beyond the financial wellness of its target audience, and emphasized that it places value on making a significant contribution through sports such as rugby and therefore makes a huge social and economic impact amongst the youth of Namibia.

“The sponsorship contribution of N$140 000 to the league is aimed at showcasing rugby part as a hugely celebrated sport in Namibia in addition to identifying talented players, with a particular emphasis on players from rural areas of the country. This spectacular showcase of raw talent provides these young men with an opportunity to be exposed to higher levels of coaching, refereeing and the game of rugby in general,” Van Zyl added.

Coordinator of the Namibia School’s Sports Rugby (NSSR), Solly Duiker expressed the NSSR’s appreciation towards Momentum for the contribution they had made towards sport, stating that Momentum was already involved in other school’s development initiatives such as the schools cricket league to name one.

Schools will be participating in various age groups namely, U14A U14B U15A U15B U19D U19C U19B U19A and U19Super. The numbers of participating regions are eight, namely Erongo, Hardap, Karas, Khomas, Kunene, Omaheke, Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa, with a total of 54 schools across these regions being covered.

The league games began on the 23rd May 2015 and will conclude with the finals on 15 August 2015.
