More Charges Over Tax Fraud

THREE members of the Mutileni family who are on bail for tax fraud, appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court facing more charges.

The family members – Waldheim his wife Diina brother Vilho Natangwe Mutileni and father, Lysias Mutileni – were among eight businesspeople who appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court facing tax fraud charges last week and were given N$5 000 bail each.

The others implicated in the tax fraud at Oshakati are: Joram Nghixulifwa his wife Belinda Jona Eikie and Heita Abraham.

This time Waldheim, an Inland Revenue officer who has been on suspension since November last year, Diina and Vilho, appeared at the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on 30 October after their arrest two days earlier.

They are facing charges of fraud and uttering involving the issuing of certificates of good standing. They appeared together with Namupala Sebastian Shiningwayamwe, who was granted bail of N$8 000, and Jona Eikie whose bail was set at N$10 000.

The Mutilenis, who own several businesses in the north, were each granted N$10 000 bail.

According to sources, Waldheim owns two construction companies and co-owns another one with Diina. One of his companies, Uukumwe Construction CC, allegedly benefited from the forged good standing certificates by getting a government tender to construct Ongwediva Secondary School at Ongwediva.
