More Kudos for Tobias Boxing Academy

MTC gman Tim Ekandjo has applauded the MTC Nestor Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy for its bold step to promote and develop boxing across the country.

Addressing the media during a well-attended press conference promoting the upcoming boxing bonanza featuring some of Namibia’s finest professional boxers against their foreign counterparts at the Omuthiya Complex on May 17, Ekandjo made positive reference to the excellent showing by Namibian boxers over the last couple of years.

“The excellent world ratings of these boxers are of course very good for us as sponsors and country because everybody can see where these boxers hail from – thus this splendid showing should serve as a good motivation for them to get into the ring with victory inscribed in their minds when they descend on Omuthiya in the next few weeks.”

He also gave corporate businesses such as Telecom and NamPower a pat on the back for taking boxing under their wings whereas others wavered, and urged others to follow suit.

“Boxing has certainly put Namibia on the global map and our boxers are not only world class athletes but are now good ambassadors for the entire nation,” he said.

Governor of the vast Oshikoto Region, Penda Ya Nangolo, commended the academy for taking boxing to his region.

“Boxing is well supported across Namibia including our region and I can assure you that the people of my region will come out in large numbers to support this tournament.”

His words were echoed by regional coordinator of the Oshikoto Region Armas Amukwiyu, who expressed excitement over the prospect of having major sporting events staged in the region.

“This will be the first time that people from our region get an opportunity to see our boxing heroes in action and we have undertaken to make this project possible because we understand the importance of sport for nation building,” enthused Amukwiyu.
