Mother Falls and Kills Baby

AN INFANT that died when its mother fell on her back is one of the eight people who died during the weekend countrywide.

Police yesterday said the one-month-old baby girl, Pandeni Gabriel, died when her mother from Onamutenya village at Okatope, Oshikoto region fell while coming from the cuca shops.

Police spokesperson inspector Stephen Nuuyi said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the baby is underway.

A culpable homicide case was reported in the Otjozondjupa region after a 31-year-old Namibia Defence Force member, Silas Mweshipopya, died on the spot when the VW Jetta he was driving collided with an Isuzu pick-up.

The driver of the Isuzu sustained serious injuries and was admitted at Otjiwarongo MediClinic.

In another incident, a passenger in another Isuzu pick-up, Levi Shikwaya Kashibonde (28) died on the spot when the vehicle overturned after the driver allegedly lost control while trying to avoid hitting a warthog about 80 kilometres from Okahandja along the Hochfeld road.

Suama Amakali also died on the spot when the car she was travelling in overturned along the OtjiwarongoKalkfeld main road, while two other accidents along the TsumebOshivelo road killed Paulus Johannes and an unidentified man.

Police said Johannes fell off a moving vehicle.

Meanwhile, in the Khomas region, Tuhafeni Herman allegedly hanged himself last Saturday in the Kilimanjaro location in Katutura and a 21-year-old man was arrested for stabbing Albert Nariseb (35) to death after an argument.
