Mother, Minor Son Hacked to Death in Rundu

A WOMAN and her six-year-old son were brutally hacked to death at Masivi village, about 10 km south of Rundu in the Kavango West region on Monday.

The two were found lying in a pool of blood in a sleeping room located just behind ‘Ndina Shebeen’, where the woman worked, yesterday morning.

Kavango East regional acting crime investigations coordinator, detective chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa at the scene that the woman was found lying next to the bed and the boy on the bed.

Mubebo said the door of the room was forced open, and it is suspected that a sharp object was used in murdering the two.

They were cut with a traditional spear and their entrails were left exposed, leaving a gruesome scene of crime.

The discovery attracted many onlookers, including pupils of the Masivi Primary School, who flocked to the scene to see what transpired.

The school children were traumatised by the whole experience to the extent that their principal decided to suspend lessons for the rest of the day on Tuesday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Laurensia Musigeni (35) and her son as Thomas Samwere. They were residents of the Masivi village.

Their next of kin have been informed.

It is suspected that the murders were committed by an 18-year-old Grade 7 learner from Masivi Primary School.

No one has, however, been arrested yet, and the police have appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward.
