Mother Suffocates Baby – Police

A TWO-MONTH-OLD baby girl from Keetmanshoop was found dead in a bed next to her mother on Friday.

Police yesterday identified the baby as Victoria Fredrick of Tseiblagte Location. According to the police, she was found lying on her stomach with her mother’s arm over her.

Speaking at a press briefing in Windhoek, Sergeant Slogan Matheus said the death was discovered by the woman’s brother, who came in to greet Victoria’s mother in the morning.

Matheus said the woman has not yet been arrested although a docket of inquest was opened to investigate the matter because police suspect that she could have been under the influence of alcohol.

The baby’s body was taken for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

In another incident, Jacobus Matroos Agalies was found dead in an old car outside a yard with a dog bite wound on his right leg at Westerkim Squatter Camp in Karasburg at about 14h00. His next of kin have been informed.

Albie Bloom (22) was stabbed with a knife on the chest and died on the spot on Saturday at about 10h40 at New Extension Location, Aroab Area. Police alleged that the suspect and the deceased were involved in a quarrel and after the deceased had insulted the suspect’s mother.

Asheelo Isai (27) was stabbed with a knife on the left side of the neck at Omaalala village in Ongwediva area. He died shortly after arrival at Oshakati State Hospital.

A man’s body was found near the road between Okahandja and Gross Barmen and preliminary police investigations showed that he had been bumped by a vehicle.
