MoU signed for empowering girls and young Namibian women through sports participation

WINDHOEK: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the capital today, aiming to empower girls and young Namibian women through sports participation.

The MoU, which was signed between the German Football Association, the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture (MYNSSC) and the Namibia Football Association (NFA), is meant to strengthen the level of cooperation between these institutions in the implementation of sports development programmes for girls in Namibia.

The Deutsche Geselleschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia in Germany were also part of the MoU signing ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Germany’s Ambassador to Namibia Onno Hückmann said their target is to enhance girls’ participation in sports and to help young women grow in self-confidence so that they can become good role models.

The program is hoping to ensure the creation of safe spaces [in which] to empower girls through sports in Namibia.
